ID@Xbox October 2026 Showcase: 21 Games, Eight Day-One Game Pass Drops, and an Indie Pipeline Into 2027

Microsoft and IGN's ID@Xbox October 2026 showcase aired October 20 with 21 indie games — including The Wolf Among Us Remastered and Shrek 2 Remastered, eight day-one Xbox Game Pass releases, and a 2027-heavy pipeline of world premieres.

What the showcase was — and why it matters

Microsoft and IGN aired the ID@Xbox October 2026 showcase on October 20, 2026, and Xbox Wire published its official recap the same day. The broadcast gathered 21 indie games heading to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and in some cases the last-generation Xbox One — a mix of world premieres, release-date announcements, and updates on long-anticipated titles. [1]

ID@Xbox is Microsoft's long-running programme for independent developers, and these showcases have become one of the most reliable fixtures on the gaming calendar: a concentrated drop of announcements for players who follow smaller studios rather than AAA blockbusters. This edition was co-hosted by IGN, which handled the broadcast, while Xbox published the definitive written recap — the recap, not any single press write-up, is the canonical record of what was announced. [1]

Timing matters here. The showcase aired October 20 in the US — 10 a.m. Pacific, 1 p.m. Eastern, 6 p.m. in the UK — which was already October 21 across much of Asia. There is no disadvantage to catching these shows after the fact: the trailers are all on Xbox's channels, and the recap carries every confirmed date. [1]

The deeper significance of an ID@Xbox showcase is what it says about Microsoft's relationship with independent developers. The console business runs on blockbusters, but Game Pass runs on volume and variety — a subscription service needs a constant feed of new reasons to stay subscribed, and indie games are the most efficient way to provide them. [1]

The eight day-one Game Pass games

Eight of the showcase's games will arrive on Xbox Game Pass on the day they launch — arguably the single most practical takeaway for subscribers. The day-one list, per Xbox Wire's recap: Scramble Knights Online (October 26, 2026 — Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC); Mouthwashing (October 29, 2026 — Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox on PC); A Game About Digging a Hole Together (December 4, 2026 — Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC); Croak (March 2027 — Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC); Mr. Magpie's Harmless Card Game (early 2027 — Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC); Drill Keeper (summer 2027 — Xbox on PC); No, I'm Not a Human (2027 — Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox on PC); Red Kiss (coming soon — Xbox Series X|S). [1] [2]

One caution, clearly labelled: the rest of the showcase was not announced for Game Pass. In the recap's listings, a game not being announced for the service does not mean it will never arrive there — games join Game Pass all the time without being day-one titles. But the eight confirmed drops are the ones subscribers can actually plan around. [1] [2]

The headline remasters: Bigby returns, then the ogre

The two announcements that travelled furthest were both remasters of cult classics. Telltale's The Wolf Among Us Remastered got a new story trailer revealing Bigby Wolf's redesigned werewolf form, and launches digitally October 29, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. The definitive edition remasters Bigby's first investigation with enhanced visuals, upgraded animation and audio, an all-new Noir Mode, behind-the-scenes bonus content, and playable deleted scenes restored from the original 2013 production. [1] [4]

Then the surprise nostalgia pick: DreamWorks' Shrek 2 Remastered, developed by Aspyr, is now available for pre-order on Xbox Series X|S and launches November 10, 2026. The cult-classic co-op adventure returns with improved graphics, a new Photo Mode, and a Cheat Mode. [1] [4]

Limit to label clearly: Xbox has not announced a PC version or Game Pass inclusion for Shrek 2 Remastered. Treat it as an Xbox Series X|S purchase for now. [1] [4]

The near-term calendar: what's actually playable before the end of the year

Scramble Knights Online — an MMO-lite action RPG set in the shared online kingdom of Terracott — launches October 26 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Game Pass. Arctic Eggs, the dystopian physics-and-patience frying sim, is available on Xbox Series X|S today. Mouthwashing, the psychological horror drama about the dying crew of a shipwrecked space freighter, arrives October 29 across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox One, and Game Pass. Zero Parades: Director's Cut — ZA/UM's award-winning espionage RPG starring Hershel Wilk, with around 40,000 words of new story, Backstage Mode, and full English voice-over — arrives on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC on November 3. A Game About Digging a Hole Together, the co-op sequel to the subterranean sandbox hit, follows on December 4 with day-one Game Pass support. And Paper Shredder — an incremental game about shredding paperwork toward a $1,000,000 payout — lands this winter on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Xbox Play Anywhere. [1]

The real story: 2027 is doing the heavy lifting

Twelve of the 21 games are dated for 2027, so this was more of a long-term pipeline than a year-end lineup. The 2027 slate, per Xbox Wire: Magenta Down (early 2027) — an atmospheric sci-fi adventure from the creators of Unto The End, set on a harsh, remote exoplanet; Mr. Magpie's Harmless Card Game (early 2027) — a sinister roguelike deckbuilder voiced by Matt Mercer, day one on Game Pass with Play Anywhere; VANRAN (early 2027) — a dark fantasy action RPG built around brutal boss encounters and climbing colossal monsters; Waveling Island (early 2027) — a cozy creature-collecting sim on a hand-drawn pixel-art island; Mr. Records (spring 2027) — an uplifting music-driven adventure; Croak (March 2027) — a hand-drawn 2D precision platformer with online speedrunning leaderboards, day one on Game Pass with Play Anywhere; Rustown (June 30, 2027) — a story-driven stealth adventure from Plotrick, with Play Anywhere; Chronoscript: The Endless End (summer 2027) — an exploration-based action-adventure spanning a 3D manor and the 2D pen-and-ink worlds inside its manuscript pages; Drill Keeper (summer 2027) — a deck-building roguelike siege defense game, on Xbox on PC and Game Pass; Love is a Roguelite (fall 2027) — the world-premiere hybrid of turn-based tactics, deckbuilding, and dating sim; Graytail (November 2027) — a 2.5D pixel-art mystery action-adventure, with Play Anywhere; No, I'm Not a Human (2027) — an apocalyptic anxiety thriller, day one on Game Pass. [1] [3]

A showcase that is three-quarters future-dated is a statement of confidence: indie is not a stopgap for Xbox between blockbusters, it is the load-bearing structure of the subscription calendar. Those dates will move — some always do — but the pipeline shape is the news. [1] [3]

Three premieres worth a closer look

Mr. Magpie's Harmless Card Game pairs a sinister workplace-deckbuilder premise with Matt Mercer voicing the unsettling host. Love is a Roguelite (LIAR) is the most genre-bent premiere: turn-based tactics meet deckbuilders meet dating sim, with a proprietary LoveSync system where choices matter, multiple character classes, and 16 romantic pairings. And VANRAN is the boss-fight enthusiast's entry: a dark fantasy action RPG where you climb colossal monsters and strike their weak points. [1] [6]

The Critical Reflex wave

Three unconventional, critically acclaimed indie hits from publisher Critical Reflex are heading to Xbox: Arctic Eggs (out now on Xbox Series X|S), Mouthwashing (October 29, on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox One, and Game Pass), and No, I'm Not a Human (2027, on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Game Pass). [1]

Play Anywhere keeps widening the door

Many of the ID@Xbox games will support Xbox Play Anywhere at launch, so one purchase covers Xbox Series X|S and PC at no additional cost. The recap explicitly lists Play Anywhere support for Croak, Graytail, Mr. Magpie's Harmless Card Game, Paper Shredder, Red Kiss, and Rustown. [1]

What this means for players — and for your backlog

If you are a Game Pass subscriber, the showcase hands you a planning calendar: Mouthwashing and Scramble Knights Online in late October, A Game About Digging a Hole Together in December, then Croak and Magpie in early 2027 — all day one, all included. If you are not a subscriber, weigh whether a subscription is worth it for the day-one games alone before you buy. A subscription covers the eight day-one Game Pass games as part of the service, while buying separately means paying for each title you want, and Play Anywhere titles also give you both Xbox and PC versions from one purchase where that support is confirmed. [1] [2] [5]

On backlog management: twenty-one games, eight of them day-one Game Pass, plus Steam Next Fest's thousands of playable demos running October 19–26. Nobody finishes all of this, and nobody should try. Pick the two or three that actually match how you like to spend your evenings and let the rest be options, not obligations. Games do not spoil; the day-one rush is social, not mechanical. Play at your own pace, take breaks when you want them, and skip anything that stops being fun. [1] [2] [5]

The bigger picture: indie October

The October 2026 edition of Steam Next Fest — running October 19 to October 26 — is flooding PC players with thousands of playable demos at the same time. Between the two events, October has become an indie showcase month: Xbox curates the announcements, Steam hands you the controllers. For players, it is a reminder that the most interesting games of 2027 are probably the ones you have not heard of yet — and this month, you can try many of them before you pay a cent.
